BUTLER College has its first school bus, complete with wheelchair access.

The school received the bus, which can seat 43 students and up to four students using wheelchairs, in mid-February.

“Staff were keen to learn how to remove seats and use the wheelchair lift to ensure the safety of all students whilst in transit,” communications and media officer Carmen Mack said.

“Fully funded by the college, the purchase of this state-of-art bus has been a long time in the making.

“It is a vital acquisition for the college, providing greater independence in transporting students on excursions and camps.

“For students with disabilities in the college’s recreational pathway, it is of special significance.

“They now have a greater capacity to participate in excursions and activities – a real life-changer for these students and inclusivity at its best.”
