School hip-hoppers win national

The Unity Dance team (pictured) finished first in contemporary and hip-hop dance categories at the Cheer Unlimited Australia Rock ‘n’ Cheer Dance Championships at Arena Joondalup.

Students aged 12 to 17 years old competed against other state and national champion schools.

Teams from Greenwood and Mater Dei colleges and Wanneroo Secondary College also competed.

Performing arts coordinator Heather Cargill said the students had prepared themselves for the challenge.

‘The students knew they were going to be competing against some of the best dance schools in Perth,’ she said.

‘It was fantastic to see that the hard work and commitment the students have put in over the past few months has resulted in such wonderful success.’

The dance team will compete at the national championships in Brisbane in November.
