At the council briefing, Cr John Chester asked if the refusal was recommended because the container was ‘not a standard structure’ and if a ‘normal shed with similar dimensions’ would be approved.
He said a sea container would be ‘more substantial in structure’.
Planning and community development director Dale Page said it was a ‘fairly large structure’ (2.4m by 6.1m and 2.6m high) and the aesthetics of the sea container did not suit the residential area.
