Green 1 was deployed about 10.45pm Tuesday 27km off Ocean Reef, responding to the activation of an emergency position-indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) and flare.

Two men were on board the vessel that had broken down.

As a safety measure, the rescue group also sent Green 2 9km out to sea as a back-up.

Green 1 towed the vessel and took the men back to Hillarys Boat Harbour.

‘It was quite a long tow, it took about two and a half hours,’ WVSR commander Roger Howell said.

‘It was a good result ” they had the right equipment and did the right thing.’

The sea rescue’s operations tower was staffed the whole time to ensure good radio communication.
