After more than four months of roadworks, the signals went live on March 5 ” a relief to drivers who had been queuing on Hester Avenue for years.
Mindarie resident Kevin Fairman, who raised safety concerns about the Neerabup junction in mid-2011, said he and his family would start using it again.
‘It is a huge improvement,’ he said.
‘I will certainly be using that intersection now, will be recommending that my daughters and wife can use it too.’
Mr Fairman said he was also relieved to see amber flashing lights on Wanneroo Road to warn drivers to stop at the signals.
He said although it took longer than anyone would have liked, the signals were a result of community pressure and efforts from now-Mayor Tracey Roberts and Wanneroo councillor Ian Goodenough. ‘If that saves one life, it’s worth the wait,’ he said.
Changes to the junction include two right-turning lanes from Hester Avenue onto Wanneroo Road, while left-turning traffic could continue to use slip lanes.
