SILVER Chain volunteer Kate Rudman says it is rewarding to help those in need.
Each week she visits Sheila, who is living with dementia, and provides respite for Sheila’s husband Brian, her primary carer.
“Sheila says she enjoys my company and looks forward to me coming every week,” Kate said.

Kate said it was extremely rewarding.
“It’s nice to be able to help where I can and do something positive, even if it is small,” she said.
“I am fully aware that as Sheila’s disease progresses, things will get more difficult for her and those who care for her.
“But at least for now she is happy.”
Silver Chain used National Volunteer Week this week to thank its volunteers, who “epitomised the theme of this year ‘making a world of difference’”.
Kate is part of Silver Chain’s community connections volunteers who reach lonely and isolated people.
