Simms to help York

At its July 21 meeting, Wanneroo councillors supported a motion for Mr Simms to be the monitoring and mentoring panel's chief executive for six months.

Local Government Minister Tony Simpson created the panel to report on the function of the York council and its overall performance.

In his report to the Wanneroo council, Mr Simms said he would have to attend monthly council briefing sessions and meetings in York and be available for telephone support to the Shire's chief executive and elected members.

"Whilst this appointment may have an impact on (my) operational availability" it can be managed in a manner that will not adversely impact on the City," his report said.

Mr Simpson had suspended the Shire council in January and appointed a commissioner, James Best, to oversee it for six months.
