Single mum puts cancer behind her to cycle for others

The Woodvale mother, who has to raise $2500 to join the ride, enjoys bike riding and a display at Lakeside Joondalup earlier this year inspired her to join the 200km ride from Pinjarra to Perth and back for the WA Institute for Medical Research.

‘I saw the display and thought, ‘that is just what I need’, an incentive to get out there and exercise for a purpose and a cause,’ she said.

‘I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2012 and since then have gone through biopsies, mammograms, ultrasounds, surgery and recovery.

‘My radiation treatment ended in April, so now is the time for me to rebuild emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.

‘I have had to be a strong person because I am a single mother of three children (Liam, Kayla and Hannah), two with special needs. Having cancer takes a lot of your confidence away… diagnosis was a shock but you have to hold everything together.’
