Social media on the agenda

The Young People�s Social Media Essay competition is being held as part of the 2015 Children: A Resource Most Precious conference being held at Edith Cowan University in Joondalup from June 24 to 26.

The main theme of the conference is to encourage collaboration between government and non-government organisations to better protect children from harm. There will be representatives from a range of government and non-government agencies.

Junior division (Year 7-9, 500-800 words) topic: Many children are using social media to share photos and communicate with their friends. How might this be risky and what should children do to protect themselves when using social media?

Senior division (Year 10-12, 1000-1500 words): Social media is a popular way of communicating. What are the risks and what should be done to protect young people from harm when using social media in daily life?
