Ocean Reef RSL sub-branch president Rick Green called on his peers at the Military Brotherhood Motorcycle Club to hold an event supporting the Soldier On program.

Club member Tony McDermott, who worked with Mr Green in the Air Force, said they would be raising funds and awareness for the program, which supports serving and ex-service personnel.

‘Supporting our wounded is not limited to physical injuries but also psychological and this is the premise behind the ride on October 12,’ he said.

‘In WA alone there have been 14 deaths this year attributed to mental illness of veterans.

‘In Australia, around 148,000 veterans with service related disabilities were being supported by Department of Veterans Affairs and of these up to 46,000 had an accepted mental health disorder.

‘Among the conditions were anxiety disorder, depression, stress disorder and alcohol dependence.’

There will be a sausage sizzle from 8am on October 12 at Ocean Reef Boat Harbour before the riders set off.

All motorbikes are welcome, with the $10 entry fee going to Soldier On.
