SOROPTIMISTS International Joondalup (SIJ) continued a nine-year relationship with Wheelchairs for Kids with a fashion fundraiser recently.

The group raised more than $2500 for the Wangara charity at a recent fashion show and president Gwen Browning said they had donated almost $18,000 to the charity since 2008.

“In addition the Dick Smith photo donation project was an SIJ initiative, which raised a further $10,000,” she said.

“We are constantly promoting the work of Brother Olly and his team and will continue to support them into the future.”

Mrs Browning said members had donated hundreds of rugs and soft toys, made hundreds of tool bags for the wheelchairs and cut patterns for wheelchair seat covers.

She said they also sent out hundreds of Christmas appeal letters and supported other groups in their fundraising.

“We are always looking for new members,” she said.

The group meets at Hillarys Yacht Club from 6.30pm on the fourth Monday of each month.
