She is performing as Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera at Limelight Theatre this November and December, playing the lead soprano at the opera house.

Based on the French novel Le Fantome de l’Opera by Gaston Leroux and directed by Bob Mainwaring, the story focuses on another soprano, Christine Daae, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius.

The Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show in Broadway history and won the 1986 Olivier Award and 1988 Tony Award for best musical.

‘Carlotta has held the role of lead soprano for many years and believes she will for many more,’ Jackson said.

‘She’s focused on ensuring she’s always the centre of attention and is very unhappy when Christine begins to take her place.

‘One of the main challenges is trying to sing Italian passages at fast speed.

‘Carlotta also sings in a very high register and I’m worried she will attract all the dogs in the neighbourhood!’

Acting for the past 15 years, Jackson has performed extensively with Limelight and Stirling theatres, Playlovers and the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of WA ” and even previously appeared as Christine Daae in a 1998 Ken Hill production of The Phantom of the Opera.

Hill was behind the original stage version, which inspired Andrew Lloyd Webber to create his musical blockbuster.

‘The Phantom of the Opera was one of the first big musicals I ever saw and I fell in love with the music,’ Jackson said.

‘It was the first musical soundtrack I purchased.’

Phantom plays at 8pm November 21-23, 27-30 and December 4-7, 11-14, and 2pm November 23, 30 and December 7 and 14.
