But that's not in the Marmion resident's nature.

Mrs Bremner joined Silver Chain as a volunteer in 1982 and she's still offering comfort as a hospice carer to the terminally ill in Perth's western suburbs more than 30 years later.

"I came from a caring family and it was always a case of helping others when you can," she said.

"It's very rewarding " the joy of being with other people and sharing their lives."

As a hospice volunteer, Mrs Bremner provides in-home support to people approaching the end of their lives, as well as assisting their families.

At times, she may be the only companion the dying person has.

Silver Chain recently honoured the dedication she had shown over the past 33 years at a ceremony in Silver Chain House to mark the beginning of Volunteer Week, which runs from May 11 to 17.

Hospice care service director David Larmour said his volunteers, who assisted more than 3000 families each year, were "simply invaluable".

"We want to highlight the tireless work all our volunteers do across Silver Chain " volunteers like June who give up time each week to help our community," he said.

Potential volunteers can contact Silver Chain on 9242 0242 or recruitment@silverchain.org.au to express interest.
