Strong recruiting gives extra bounce to season

The men’s and women’s sides have recruited strongly in the off-season and are expected to forge strong campaigns this year.

The men are looking to bounce back with the return of championship coach Ben Ettridge after missing the finals last year.

Star big man Damian Matacz has made a surprise comeback to boost the Wolves front court, making an intimidating addition to the paint with Rob Huntington, 205cm import Kevin Davis and youngster Louis Timms.

It will be the Wolves’ best inside line-up since their 2011 championship year when Greg Hire, Matacz and import John Vaudreuil caused headaches for the opposition.

The women will look to recapture the form that won the SBL championship in 2013.

The side was on track to go back-to-back last year but an injury-affected team bowed out in the semi-finals.

The inclusion of New Zealand Olympian Antonia Edmondson and return of reliable shooter Rebecca Mercer boosts an already talented line-up.

The Wolves face the Tigers at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.
