The funds were donated to educational program A Case for Change run by Perth-based not-for-profit organisation Awareness Cambodia.

Founder Gary Hewett said 1500 backpacks were distributed to three primary schools in the Kampong Speu province in July.

‘It’s truly life-changing for young children in Cambodia, with many struggling to gather enough money for the basics we take for granted here in Australia, such as a pencil and a book,’ Dr Hewett said.

‘Seeing their huge smiles as they sling the new backpacks across their shoulder for the first time is truly moving.’
