Ashdale Secondary College dance and drama teacher Sherree Gull said the Year 6 students were part of a free dance extension program.
Miss Gull said they had been meeting at the college every Tuesday to prepare for todays performance at the Wakakirri festival in the Regal Theatre in Subiaco.
We are the smallest group performing from WA this year for Wakakirri and span across three primary schools, she said.
Miss Gull said the dance, called Child Soldiers, discussed the cultural issue that involves more than 300,000 children in more than 30 conflicts worldwide.
They are used as combatants, abducted from their families, recruited and living in combat zones, having limited education and chance of survival, she said.
We incorporate different styles of drama, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary into our routine to assist in us telling our story.
Our focus is on sustainability and recycling and all of our props and costumes have been borrowed or recycled from (my) past performances.
