Summer school holiday programs packed with fun for northern suburbs youth

PHOTOGRAPHY, cooking classes and adventurous outings are planned for school holiday programs in the cities of Joondalup and Wanneroo this summer.

The Wanneroo holiday program will start with a photography workshop on January 7, then a basketball and badminton session at the Phil Renkin Recreation Centre in Two Rocks on January 8.

It will include first aid training for outdoor adventures at the Hainsworth Youth Centre in Girrawheen on January 9, and an escape room game on January 11.

There will be mini golf and sports in Wanneroo on January 14, a free open day at the Yanchep Community Centre on January 15 and a family quiz night in Banksia Grove on January 18.

Cooking classes will feature Asian meals at Wanneroo Youth Centre on January 17 and Mexican food at Hainsworth Youth Centre on January 22.

The Wanneroo Youth Centre will host an edible experiments session on January 21.

There will also be a free outdoor cinema screening for 13 to 16-year-olds on January 25 at the Jacaranda Amphitheatre in Wanneroo.

Water gooey games in Clarkson on January 10, bubble sport on January 16 and an art workshop in Yanchep on January 23 are already fully booked.

Libraries will run the Summer Reading Club until the end of January, which has a theme of ‘curious creatures’ and there will be sports camps at Kingsway Indoor Stadium in Madeley.

Joondalup’s youth event series will bounce in on January 7 with a visit to Latitude aerial park in Edgewater, then a trip to the Calamunnda Camel Farm and Kalamunda Waterslide Park on January 8.

A trip to Adventure World is planned for January 9 and mountain biking session on January 10.

Activities planned between January 14 and 17 include a Perth Zoo visit and Funcats River Sailing, Quirky Cactus Art School and Rollerdrome outing, stand up paddleboarding and birds of prey session, and a trip to Cockburn Go Karts and wake boarding.

Outings from January 21 to 24 include Design-a-Donut and Holey Moley Mini Golf, a leadership day at Aloha Surfhouse and Clip’n’Climb, bubble soccer and Bayswater Waves, and late night Adventure World.

The holiday program will finish with Nostalgia Box gaming and movies on January 29, ice hockey and waterslides in Cockburn on January 30, then tree zip lining and outdoor movies on January 31.

There will also be free Friday night drop-in sessions at the Anchors Youth Centre in Heathridge.
