Perth defence lawyer backs a new annual fitness test for WA Police

‘I think it’s not a bad idea; it’s a new day and age,’ he said on 6PR after Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan showed off the test at Joondalup Police Academy last week.

‘We all remember those old-fashioned country police sergeants who would always be down the pub; just part of the community and they’d be the same size as everyone else.

‘But I think policing’s changed, especially with drugs. And there is a lot of really dangerous offenders out there on the streets all the time.

‘And the younger and fitter our police officers are, the better off we are.

‘I think it is a step in the right direction.’
