‘I have been practising this song for about six weeks and was stunned when they read my name out as the winner coming first out of 29 competitors.

‘I gave my mum and dad the biggest hug ever as they have supported me all the way.’

Coming in a close second with a score of 89 per cent was Woodvale Secondary College student Caitlin who impressed the crowd with her performance of Quiet from the musical Matilda.

‘I was so happy to get second place. I was especially pleased that the adjudicator gave us immediate written feedback on our performances,’ Caitlin said.

‘I feel like my confidence has really grown and it is great to have opportunities like this in Perth.’
