Running for four weeks at Sacred Heart College’s performing arts centre, Eleanor (11) and big sister Caitlin (13) competed on August 31, battling it out against one another and 27 other competitors.
Performing Popular from the musical Wicked, North Woodvale Primary School’s Eleanor came first in the heat with a score of 90 per cent.
‘I was so excited to be part of such a fantastic competition and really enjoyed singing my song to an audience,’ Eleanor said.
‘I have been practising this song for about six weeks and was stunned when they read my name out as the winner coming first out of 29 competitors.
‘I gave my mum and dad the biggest hug ever as they have supported me all the way.’
Coming in a close second with a score of 89 per cent was Woodvale Secondary College student Caitlin who impressed the crowd with her performance of Quiet from the musical Matilda.
‘I was so happy to get second place. I was especially pleased that the adjudicator gave us immediate written feedback on our performances,’ Caitlin said.
‘I feel like my confidence has really grown and it is great to have opportunities like this in Perth.’
