The Wanneroo Secondary College Year 8 students entered their song, It Was You in Triple J’s Unearthed competition last month and at its peak the song reached sixth in the pop genre.

The 13-year-olds have been playing guitar since they were five and have never had singing lessons.

‘We love singing together and thought the competition would be a great opportunity,’ Asha said.

The sisters were thrilled to make the top 100 and said they could not have done it without the help of music teacher John McPherson. ‘Asha and Lili have exceptional raw talent,’ Mr McPherson said.

‘Combined with their hard-working ethic and their feverish approach to rise above challenges, they are set to produce more incredible work in their high school life.’
