The Great Escape closed indefinitely as owner looks for new tenant

Laura PondWanneroo Times

POPULAR Hillarys amusement park The Great Escape is closed indefinitely.

Leasehold owner Wyllie Group confirmed today the park was closed while it sought a new tenant.

In a statement, the group said it was working with prospective tenants and other stakeholders, including the site’s head lessor the Department of Transport, the City of Joondalup and other existing tenants within Hillarys Boat Harbour, to “ensure that a positive long-term outcome for the park” could be achieved.

“Given the requirements for The Great Escape operator to have specific qualifications and experience to appropriately manage a facility of this nature, it is expected the process to identify and attract a suitable tenant may take considerable time to complete,” it said.

“Despite the delay that may occur in finding a new tenant, the Wyllie Group is looking to reopen parts of The Great Escape as soon as possible as it acknowledges it is an important ‘social asset’ for the northern suburbs communities.”

Signs at the park say it is closed for maintenance and it has reportedly not opened since June.
