A CAST of 65 students from Tapping Primary School are preparing for their latest musical production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

The traditional fairy tale takes place in a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where a mermaid named Ariel longs to leave her ocean home to live above the sea.

First she’ll have to defy her father the King, escape the clutches of an evil sea witch and convince a prince that she’s the girl with the perfect voice.

Director Cheryl Peak said the objective of presenting a musical of this size was to provide students with opportunities to develop their social and self-management skills.

“During the rehearsals the students learn to support and encourage one another and the experience enables them to be self-motivated learners with a compassion for others,” she said.

“It also gives teachers, students and parents an opportunity of getting to know each other in a different context whilst having fun.”

Public performances will be on November 4 and 5 at the school, with doors open from 6pm.

Tickets cost $15 and can be booked by calling 9404 6033.
