‘Tis the season for free music

‘We try, no matter what type of music we’re playing, to just be good songwriters and craft good, strong songs that are lyrically strong and I think most people will be able to find something they can dig out of that,’ he said.

The five-piece Perth band is preparing to headline the first Music in the Park gig that kicks off the City of Joondalup’s free summer concert series this Saturday at Mawson Park in Hillarys.

Gibson said it was a pleasure to be asked to perform and the band was looking forward to it.

‘Any opportunity to play to a wider crowd than the normal pub and club shows is always really welcomed,’ he said.

‘It’s a nice relaxed feel when you get to do shows like this.

‘We’re going to go for a bit more of our country-influences and leave a few of the heavier moments at home for this one.

‘We can be quite a rocky, noisy band, but we’ve also got a side of our music that is more influenced by country music and ballads.

‘So, playing a longer set to this different type of crowd means we can show off a bit more of both sides of what we do as a band, which is great,’ he said.

Australia’s Got Talent contestant and Australian Idol finalist Jonny Taylor and WA Music blues and roots 2011 Song of the Year winner Matt Cal are the supporting acts, which start at 6.45pm.

Kids activities will run from 6pm.
