“The base is set up as a radio communications and co-ordination centre and is our principle training facility,” she said.

“Being a volunteer with Two Rocks Volunteer Marine Rescue Group you are directly involved with marine rescue services from Alkimos Reef to Moore River and Seabird.

“The duty crew man our rescue vessels and are on standby for 24 hours a day with crews rotating providing rescues 365 days a year.”

Radio officers are on duty for boaties to log voyage details from 6am to 6pm from November 1 to March 31, and they operate radios from 7am to 5pm from April to October.

If boats fail to return by the time logged, a search will be organised.

The group formed in 1991 as an independent volunteer sea rescue group using personal vessels to undertake rescues.

Two Rocks Volunteer Marine Rescue Group became incorporated in 1997, is gazetted under the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and is a member of Volunteer Marine Rescue WA.
