Mayor Tracey Roberts moved an alternative motion at this month’s council meeting to approve the donation in acknowledgement of the station’s local community benefits.
‘Local students, for example journalism students from ECU, local students from schools are able to cut their teeth on local radio by writing and reading news,’ Mrs Roberts said.
‘They broadcast any issues to do with the community, including fire updates, offering to come out to community events and have regular monthly timeslots for people within the community, including local members of Parliament, local police and the City of Wanneroo.’
