Upgrades needed: MLA

The figure came after Wanneroo MLA Paul Miles addressed the Legislative Assembly over asbestos and maintenance concerns at the 40-year-old school in March.

After his address, he wrote to Education Minister Peter Collier to ask for a breakdown of repairs.

From the total amount of money spent on repairs, $160,856 was from non-wilful damage.

‘The three most costly areas on that list were $51,727 for plumbing and gas; roof plumbing costs of $16,471 and $13,841 for building services,’ Mr Miles said. Other costs included $32,888 on electrical, $8775 on cooling and $6802 on reticulation.

Mr Miles said he believed money spent on repairs could be invested into new classrooms and improved facilities and that he would continue to push for that outcome in the Parliament.
