Vehicle theft spike

Tyler BrownWanneroo Times

WARWICK police have reminded the community to “look, lock, leave” after recent instances of stealing from vehicles in Girrawheen and Marangaroo and around Warwick and Greenwood train stations.

Sergeant Wayne Hendrie said while burglaries had largely been down in the past 12 months, stealing from motor vehicles was not.

“These could be easily reduced,” he said.

“We just need to make it as hard as possible.”

This included not leaving valuables in the car and keeping doors locked.

“Things like wallets, phones, cameras and computer stuff should not be left in cars,” Sgt Hendrie said.

“Even coins left in cars are a target.”

He also urged people to park in well lit areas or places where there is CCTV, and to report any suspicious activity to police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
