Vinnies call for donations

Ellie BlackmoreWanneroo Times

Last Christmas about 1200 Vinnies volunteers delivered more than 2000 Christmas hampers to people in need.

St Vinnies chief executive Mark Fitzpatrick said Christmas was a challenging time for many in the community. "At what should be a time of happiness and celebration, far too many West Australians are facing the prospect of a bleak Christmas," he said.

Our call centre volunteers are struggling to keep up with the number of calls they are receiving, with 1640 requests for welfare received in November alone.

"With the downturn in the economy and many businesses laying off staff, we are seeing more individuals and families doing it tough."

"We know the WA community is very generous, so I hope they can support the Vinnies Christmas Appeal," Mr Fitzpatrick said.

The Christmas appeal will run until the end of January.
