The Sacred Heart College student stunned the judges on TV talent show The X Factor and will continue on to the next round of the competition.

The humble 16-year-old said she is grateful for the immediate support from the local community.

‘I have already had the first couple of moments of people recognising me as I am sitting having lunch at Whitford City and wanting to come and ask if I am ‘that girl from X Factor‘,’ she said.

‘It actually makes me feel warm and fuzzy because I’m not a famous person, I’m just a normal person, and there’s something wonderful about local people wanting to wish a normal person all the best in achieving their dreams.’

Sydnee said her song choice, Youth by Daughter, highlighted the uniqueness of her voice rather than her range. ‘It is a really still song and the audience were completely quiet,’ she said.

‘When I finished the song it was like they snapped out of this really calm moment and went crazy.

‘I was completely gobsmacked by the response.

‘I couldn’t stop putting my hand over my mouth as I was so shocked.’

Still reeling from the experience, Sydnee said she looked forward to meeting other contestants and exploring music and career opportunities.

‘You can be told a million times by your family and friends that you have a great voice, but it is something completely surreal to realise other people think you have something as well.’
