POOLS at Wanneroo Aquamotion are being repaired after the City of Wanneroo found problems with tiling.

Staff discovered tiles coming away from the wall of the outside deep water pool in August and from the floor of the hydrotherapy pool in September.

A report by the City presented at the October council meeting said an inspection by aquatic engineers attributed the issue to the tiling works not completed to standard when done nearly 10 years ago.

They recommended the pools be drained and re-tiled, at a cost of more than $178,000.

“Administration will also be seeking advice from the City’s lawyer in respect to any claim that may be able to be made against relevant parties in respect to costs incurred in rectification of the issue and lost income,” it said.

The outdoor pool was closed for winter but closure of the hydrotherapy pool required swim school and private hydrotherapy lessons be cancelled.

The report said tiles were also damaged in the main lap pool, with staff replacing tiles where needed to allow the pool to remain open, but the City would undertake a detailed review and planned to fix the issue in the 2018-19 financial year.
