POLICE have stepped up patrols at Wanneroo Central after an increase in crime, including the alleged assault of a female security guard by a 14-year-old girl.
Officers have charged the teenager over the incident late last month, in which the guard suffered a broken arm when she fell after the accused allegedly pushed her.
Senior Sergeant Simon Hazell said police charged the girl with assault occasioning bodily harm. Inquiries were continuing into others who were with her at the time.
He said officers had responded to a spate of anti-social behaviour as well as retail thefts.
Shoppers would notice an increased police presence in and outside the centre, including horseback patrols and the canine squad.
“The focus is going to be every day over the course of the next month,” he said.
