Wanneroo Community Nursing Home rallies to help runners

WANNEROO Community Nursing Home is getting behind two of its own.

Sandy Shaw is one of 11 employees taking part in the 12km HBF Run for a Reason this Sunday to support two team members who have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“Both of our girls are treasured and respected and have touched our lives with their courage, strength and absolute determination to beat this disease,” Ms Shaw said.

“We as a small organisation pride ourselves on being a family away from our everyday family and support each other through all triumphs and disasters.”

The team will be among 39 ‘Breast Friends’ runners who aim to raise more than $40,000 for Breast Cancer Care WA.

“We are extremely lucky to have immense support from family members of our residents, visiting doctors and other staff members who are not able to participate in the run,” Ms Shaw said.

“Some people on our team are actually taking annual leave days to participate in the event.”
