CONSTRUCTION of a $930,000 extension to Wanneroo City Soccer Club’s change rooms is expected to start in November 2019 and finish in May 2020.

The Wanneroo Council endorsed a concept plan for the facility at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex in Madeley at its August meeting, noting the project schedule.

Part of the cost will include a $150,000 Federal grant and the City of Wanneroo plans to submit an application for $250,000 in State funding through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund.

The City provided temporary transportable changing facilities in 2017 to address the club’s short-term needs.

Councillor Brett Treby said that decision addressed the issue almost immediately and could help solve similar issues at other facilities in the future.

“Those transportable buildings (will) become available for other clubs in newer areas that need them,” he said.

According to the August council report, the club has 19 junior teams and 13 senior teams, but there were only two permanent change rooms and two temporary change rooms.

The proposed extension will include six multipurpose change rooms, a store room and a universal access toilet.
