Wanneroo Show: it’s showtime!

EMMA Chalk (5), a fourth-generation Wanneroo Show-goer, was delighted to meet Bingo, an Australian miniature pig, who will be a star attraction in the Barn Babes Animal Farm at the Wanneroo Agricultural Show this weekend.

Four-month-old Bingo was getting along beautifully with Emma until he kissed her on the arm; the relationship soured a little after that.

However, Bingo is a very popular and busy little pig, and enjoys visiting therapy centres for children with his owner Sue King, where he allows the youngsters to pat and feed him.

The first Wanneroo Show was held in 1909, after a committee was formed to showcase Wanneroo’s agricultural produce and stock, and to bring together the small pioneering community to enjoy an annual, fun-filled day.

Little did those early Wanneroo pioneers know that 107 years later, their Wanneroo Show would still be going strong.

It is still run by a committee of volunteers, who work hard to maintain its great tradition and to provide a fun-filled event for the young and not-so-young.

The 2016 Wanneroo Show is on at the Wanneroo Showground on Ariti Avenue this Friday from 4pm to 10.30pm and Saturday from 9am to 10.30pm.
