Wanneroo soccer brawl: brothers charged with grievous bodily harm

AN alleged Wanneroo soccer brawl could land two brothers in jail for up to 10 years after police charged them with grievous bodily harm last week.

Police allege the pair, aged 32 and 23, seriously assaulted a 25-year-old Hamersley man during a five-a-side outdoor match at Wanneroo Sports and Social Club about 7pm on January 31.

He was allegedly kicked in the head multiple times as he lay on the ground.

Senior Sergeant Brad Burnett said the victim required two surgeries to repair his face, which included a broken jaw and broken nose.

The men are due in Joondalup Magistrates Court on May 1.

The teams were competing as part of the Area 5 Football league.

In February, competition founder Bryan Raeburn said both sides were no longer part of the fixtures.

Grievous bodily harm carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment.
