THE call is out for northern suburbs senior citizens to join in the fun at an Irish style ‘Gathering’, at 10.15 am, on the third Thursday of the month at St Anthony’s Parish Hall in Wanneroo.

The Gathering kicks off with a registration and welcome by committee member Jim Egan, followed by a musical interlude from Fred Rea or a guest musician.

A specialist guest speaker is invited each month to talk on seniors’ issues, followed by a light lunch and quiz. Doors close at 1pm.

‘The Gathering’ is the brainchild of Sean McDonagh, who retired last December as assistant business manager at Mater Dei College.

Finding more time on his hands, Mr McDonagh looked for a project to benefit the older community.

He discussed his ideas with Irish compatriots, Fred Rea and Jim Egan, and together they came up with ‘The Gathering’.

“A gathering in Irish means a meeting,” he said.

“We wanted an Irish style meeting where people could have a few laughs, socialise, share memories and enjoy a break from their normal routine.”

The Gathering has been well supported in its early months, but the organising committee hopes more seniors will come and join in the fun.

The venue and activities are free, with the light lunch and quiz prizes provided by sponsors.

For more information, call Sean on 0431 018 388, Jim on 0413 866 320 or Fred on 0418 943 832.
