Lucy JarvisWanneroo Times

MINDARIE Regional Council has closed its reuse shop and stopped accepting household goods as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“MRC is continuing to monitor the rapid developments in respect of the COVID-19 virus and is taking the appropriate steps to slow the spread of the virus, in line with Federal and State health advice,” chairman David Boothman said.

“In order to help protect both its staff and members of the public, the MRC has suspended its public waste education activities until further notice.

Cr Boothman said the Tamala Park facility remained open for people to drop off household hazardous waste, polystyrene, steel and e-waste for free at this stage.

He said the transfer station was also still open for general waste disposal and those services would continue as long as it was safe to do so.

Earlier this month MRC postponed waste education activities such as visits to schools, community groups and businesses; the Earth Carers course and tours of its Tamala Park and Neerabup facilities in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.
