West Australians urged to have a say on Mindarie holiday park

PEOPLE from across WA are being encouraged to have their say in an online survey about a potential holiday park in Perth’s northern suburbs.

The City of Wanneroo urged its residents and Western Australians in general to contribute to the survey about the former Quinns Rocks Caravan Park site in Mindarie before the February 14 deadline.

Corporate strategy and performance director Noelene Jennings said the survey was an opportunity for the local community and those living further afield to contribute ideas to the decision making and planning process.

“The site is a prime coastal location with enormous tourism potential and it is crucial that we hear a range of views from everyone,” Mrs Jennings said.

“The City’s aim is to create a destination of choice for locals and visitors which generates local jobs through tourism and further enhances the City’s reputation as a fantastic place to live, work and enjoy recreational activities.

“It is essential to understand the views of our community on how we can best showcase the wealth of natural and built attractions the region has to offer locals and visitors.

“We have carried out extensive community engagement to help inform our business planning for this project and this community survey is the next step in gathering further feedback.

“The community survey is progressing well with almost 600 responses submitted so far with roughly half of participants City residents and the remainder from the wider Perth metropolitan and other areas.”

Wanneroo Council decided to redevelop the site in 2012, but the foreshore property has mainly been used as an overflow car park since it was cleared in 2015 after the caravan park closed and long-term residents moved out.

Destination Perth chief executive Tracey Cinavas-Prosser said development of a holiday park would provide the region with an important tourism venue.

“Attracting visitors from domestic and international markets is crucial to realising the tourism potential of a site,” she said.

“Visitors to Perth are searching for a range of accommodation choices and often want to stay close to the beautiful coast, which the area is renowned for.”

Ms Cinavas-Prosser said tourism was a key economic driver and a holiday park would provide local jobs and support local businesses.

“Destination Perth’s role is to build awareness, increase visitor spend and length of stay, all of which need to be supported by offering good quality accommodation and we are excited to see the potential for this site explored,” she said.
