Whale wash-up

Justin BianchiniWanneroo Times

Though the crowds weren’t as big, many onlookers wandered down to Sorrento Beach on Monday and Tuesday to see the head of a 3m sperm whale.

Rolling in the sea near the groyne north of Marmion Angling and Aquatic Club, it presented a challenge to remove for staff from the Department of Parks and Wildlife and the City of Joondalup.

An excavator rolled the five-tonne head ashore on Tuesday morning before officers wrapped it in netting so it could be carried along the beach and trucked to Mindarie Regional Council’s Tamala Park facility.
