WORK has started on building 1.33km of water mains in Banksia Grove.

The Water Corporation project aims to cater for future growth in the City of Wanneroo and it is expected to be completed by September.

Spokeswoman Clare Lugar said the water main was being constructed along Woolly Road, Ghost Gum Boulevard, Parakeelya Road and Celadon Loop.

“Work will be undertaken using both open trench excavation and trenchless technology,” she said.

“Trenchless technology will be used to minimise traffic impacts on busy roads, such as the intersection of Joondalup Drive and Parakeelya Road.

“This technology allows us to tunnel under the intersection, without the need to dig up the road surface.”

Traffic management will be in place while the main is installed and less noisy works will be undertaken overnight and on weekends where possible to hasten completion.

Water Corporation will ensure areas disturbed by the construction, such as verges and driveways, are returned as close to original condition as possible.

Ms Lugar said the work would cater for growth and improve water supplies in the area.
