June Bremner, of Marmion, received her award in the volunteer category in this year’s WA Aged and Community Services excellence in care awards.

She has volunteered for more than 30 years with Silver Chain and other organisations and admits the work has enabled her to meet many wonderful people and bring happiness to people’s lives.

‘I grew up in a very caring environment, where my mum was a nurse and dad had a very strong sense of community spirit,’ said June, who also supports other Silver Chain volunteers.

‘Volunteering is something I love doing, it is incredibly rewarding and I get a tremendous amount of pleasure in helping other people to smile and in sharing a laugh, particularly people in palliative care who are really making the most out of the time they have left.’

The awards recognise not-for-profit providers and individuals in aged and community care.
