Friends Brittany Young, from Osborne Park, and Rebecca Miller , from Woodvale, and six others, came up with the idea of Love to Love Yourself in order to get more young people aware of and talking about mental health.
‘I was doing a course in self expression and leadership and was looking at the importance of self love and how it relates to anxiety, depression and life in general,’ Ms Young said.
‘The idea came from that and aims to get people having a conversation about mental health.
‘Mental health issues are still considered to have stigma attached to them. It is important to break this down, especially in young people.’
Ms Miller, who will be one of the speakers, has dealt with her own issues of depression and anxiety.
‘It is something that is not freely discussed among young people but one in 10 people will have anxiety and one in five Australians will have depression,’ she said.
Love to Love Yourself will feature two other speakers, bands and activities based on discussing mental health in the communty.
‘We want people to have fun but also remember the reason why they are at the event,’ Ms Miller said.
