Beautiful Trees Have Been Lost: Ocean Reef Road Extension

Janice TeoWanneroo Times

COME and see the new needless double-lane extension on Ocean Reef Road leading to a single-lane roundabout at the bottom on the road to nowhere.

Be amazed in our drying climate at the care they have taken to hack and rip up the 25-year-old established trees that provided a sound barrier, shade and home for cockatoos and brightly coloured parrots.

Now the canopy has given way to another scarred, badly planned road that is not even centralised correctly.

A huge tree was felled to make a small bus stop that no-one waits at as it is only used as a drop-off zone.

If someone does actually sit there, because they have forgotten where they are or what they are doing, perhaps bewildered by sunstroke, they may look up and wonder why the tree isn’t sculpted to provide any shade any more.

If only the forever-cancelled Ocean Reef Marina project was built as quickly, without thought for the environment, we would have another attraction to rival Hillarys Waterfront built yesterday.

But then the road might actually lead somewhere, right?

I’m going green before WA goes brown.
