State Government spending offers cold comfort for future finances.

THE State Treasurer, Dr Nahan, didn’t give the voters much comfort to know that our deficit could have been worse.

Our State’s finances could have been a lot better if Mr Barnett had not spent billions of dollars on projects such as Elizabeth Quay and the Burswood Stadium at about the same time, plus other expensive work.

Most experts had stated over the past few years that the mining boom was going to slow down but it seems the Government did not heed the warnings.

The State Government cut police, nursing, teacher and public service jobs otherwise the deficit would have been worse.

Consequently, we have record low numbers in all our essential services and vacancies that cannot be filled, such as police detective positions.
