Excellent report

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

I THANK reporter Claire Ottaviano for her excellent report in the July 29 edition on the Russell Road large trees in Madeley plus a very clear view of those magnificent trees.

Thank you to all those who signed the petition for Mr Brian Williams and may you get a great result when it comes to Wanneroo council for judgment day.

By then perhaps more councillors will support Sabine Winton for her stand and for listening to the people who voted these other councillors in and who, for their own reasons, took the opposite view.

Another man also wrote in to your paper with the letter headlined “Stop this stupidity”. It’s sure time this council remembers the “disgraceful destruction” of the old-growth forest trees that once stood on the hill as mentioned by this man at Wanneroo Wildflower Nursery. Some of those “original trees” were more than 500 years old and all in good health.

The council at that time was in print as saying 14 trees would be saved. I even had an officer in the Planning Department colour those trees red, so there should have been a strong voice from within the council. I believe a few staff were upset as they were overruled by the state.

There is just one remaining tree left from all that Madeley area and it took a lot of fight to save that tree, which is situated now not far from the present trees.

I hope people will remember when October comes for elections that a few of the councillors don’t listen to the ratepayers.

Finally, why is there no tree register in a huge city? Can someone explain that?
