Fire risk real

Alaric Hayes, WoodvaleWanneroo Times

I have had a similar experience in connection with the dry grass and overgrown bush, compounded by lack of adequate firebreaks, endangering the iconic Cockman House on its eastern frontage; this despite my appeal to various people in authority in Wanneroo.

The land is owned by a government department, which seems to engender the lack of interest (government departments are not obliged to put in firebreaks as ordinary citizens are required to do).

A firebreak that was put in some time ago, only after much agitation on my part, is overgrown once more.

It is the City’s responsibility to correct this situation immediately, before Cockman House is lost to fire, and to ensure that fire-breaks are installed on a regular, rather than ad hoc basis.
