People power triumphs

Staff ReporterWanneroo Times

I THANK Councillor John Chester, who put up the motion not to sell Lot 971 in Kingsley, and the six councillors who voted with him to keep the bushland for local people.

The super seven listened to a clear community message, sheeted home in a petition signed by 1977 people, that the bushland is precious and should not be sold to a developer for any amount of money.

Since the decision I have been thanked by various people for my role as a committee member of the Kingsley and Greenwood Residents Association as well as the Kingsley Amateur Football Club.

I’m a relatively new member of these committees and, while I’m humbled, I’d feel like a Johnny-come-lately if I didn’t point out that residents’ association president Richard Dobrowolski, vice-president Sonia Makoare, (acting president in Richard’s absence), secretary Dave Blackburn and long-time Kingsley footy club leader Keith Pearce are the people who deserve most of the praise. I congratulate them and all fellow supporters of Lot 971, especially those people who spent long years, months, days and hours fighting for the cause.
