Push the envelope for protecting mail

Senior Sergeant Steve DawsonWanneroo Times

Important mail has been stolen and its owners have been unaware of the thefts. Mail is being intercepted and stolen by opportunistic thieves targeting unsecured mailboxes. Multiple mailboxes at communal dwellings are particularly attractive to thieves as they provide access to numerous boxes. Increasingly, banks are posting out replacement credit and debit cards to customers’ personal addresses. This is compounded by the fact that these cards are, on occasions, ‘activated and ready to go’. This gives would-be fraudsters easy access to goods and services, especially via ‘Pay Pass’ or ‘Pay Wave’ functions. If you require, or are expecting, a replacement bank card, inquire with your financial organisation to have it collected in person at any of their branches.
