WE have been residents of South Gnangara for the past 25 years and would like some answers as to why after having been included in the draft Perth Peel @ 3.5 million strategy we have been left off the Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment for rezoning to urban deferred.
A handful of residents who were against the inclusion managed to sway Wanneroo council to revoke on its support of this decision saying they represented the Gnangara area.
A petition of the area showed that they did not have this support by over three to one, yet the planning commission has ignored this by not including us on the latest amendment.
We are going to be left as a buffer zone, sandwiched between industry, major roads and urbanisation, which nobody will want to buy.
The Gnangara area is not as it was even 10 years ago. Our idyllic lifestyle was ruined by the rezoning of land on Ocean Reef Road and Sydney Road to industrial bringing with it a concrete jungle, noise, dust and increased traffic flow that, with Sydney Road and Badgerup Road going to be expanded and Lakeland Drive being used as a cut through will only get worse.
How much more traffic will flow through the area with urban being right on our doorstep?
Our properties have been substantially devalued, which for some was their retirement nest egg.
We, in Gnangara, need to have the same rights as everyone who has been included.
It seems residents of Gnangara are being penalised because of a minority of people’s views.
The planning commission has told us that nothing will happen overnight even it was rezoned – it will take years.
However, to be rezoned to urban deferred is giving residents the option later on which can only be a plus for re-sale rather than being a buffer zone.
It is very frustrating that this decision by the commission was made without consultation with the area. We would just like some answers as to why we have not been included and to reverse this decision.
HEATHER and STAN TOWNSEND,
