Ocean Reef, 10 Crowther Elbow – $899,000 to $950,000

Today, it is a stunning example of a true entertainer’s delight, with a free-flowing layout and plenty of room for family and friends to gather.

“When we bought the house, it was the traditional Ocean Reef signature – red brick interiors with complementary dark-green carpets throughout,” one of the owners said. “The first-floor bathroom had a pink toilet complete with two separate, non-matching basins in pinks and purple; the late ’80s certainly needed more colour co-ordination.”

The couple, who share the home with three teenage children, started renovations the first day they moved in, removing or covering up any relics from the past.

The double-storey house now opens into a welcoming entry that leads to a sunken theatre room with solid timber flooring and double french doors.

Further inside is the central open-plan main living space, which is home to the kitchen with quality stainless steel 900mm appliances, a dishwasher, glass splashbacks and glossy cabinets.

“The kitchen was designed to have long benchtops with cupboards below,” the owner said.

“It is now great for parties as we use the benches like a smorgasbord – our guests can line up with a plate in hand patiently waiting for their food; it’s great.”

This indoor/outdoor space extends out to the alfresco area, which consists of a pitched pergola that spans the entire width of the home and is finished with a timber deck and water feature.

The spacious back garden is also home to the 12m pool and outdoor spa, from which you can watch TV or listen to music piped through the speakers.

The children’s wing is located on the ground floor and offers three double-sized bedrooms with built-in robes and reverse-cycle airconditioning units.

“As each bedroom was for one of our children, it was important that the design of each room incorporated an area for a computer and desk,” the owner said.

The sectioned family bathroom keeps arguments at bay and has also been fully renovated with modern tiling, stone benchtops and twin vanity units.

On the first floor is where parents will find room to have some quiet time, with a study, a powder room and a lounge with sliding doors leading out to a balcony.

“White venetian blinds have been added to shade the sun on hot days and clear roll-up blinds were attached to the balustrade to allow full use of the balcony in the cooler months,” the owner said.

Completing the parents’ retreat is the king-sized master bedroom with walk-in robe, extra storage and a spa ensuite.

“We have had lots of fun and have made lots of memories in this house,” the owner said. “It’s a great home for any family.”
